“Happy Mother’s Day to Deshawn Willie Robinson for being the Father and the Mother! I don’t acknowledge that egg donor that’s suppose to be my mom!!!!”
A disgruntled Deja shared the message on the Twitter. This message tweeted counter to the instagrams of lovely brunches and special shout outs to “ma dukes” across the country. For Imani this was just another painful reminder of the mother who abandoned her.
You see Deja, was not planned, not an accident per-say rather a surprise. Deshawn met the mother of his precious baby girl 16 years ago. Her name was Talesha, thick, scrumptious goddess, Deshawn was instantly enthralled. She had a job, a car, a swag, she was stuntin! He would see Talesha with the rest of her girls playing basketball at the YWCA. Talesha had been the captain of the Women’s varsity team leading them to victory. She was on her way to play at State school even though she could have just went straight to the WNBA. He and his boys would sit round the court in their freshest j’s and pressed jeans waiting for one of the girls to give them time of day.
DeShawn can recall the day like it was an hour ago. Sopping with sweat Talesha passed DeShawn and looked, but it was a different kind of look. It was the kind of look that the ladies on the corner gave to the men mama referred to as “gigolos.” It was the kind of look that made DeShawn feel like the men in the Axe commercials. Talesha parted her ruby lips, “You coming to the bbq tonight.” His mind racing he couldn’t believe Talesha had just invited him! It took everything for him to shake his head yes. Talesha and her girls had barely cleared the gym when the boys exchanged a round of delightful squeals, all except or Kenneth.
“Talesha is no good,” Kenneth warned DeShawn, “my cousin use to date her and he said….well just be careful.” The boys walked home DeShawn felt like he was on cloud 9. The hours to the BBQ felt like days to DeShawn. He paced back in forth nervously, even practiced some of his juking moves in the mirror, he had to be on point if he had a shot with Talesha. 9pm finally rolled around and his boys came around to pick him up for the BBQ. DeShawn grabbed his carmax and mentos as he ran out the door. Little did he know his entire life was going to change.
The BBQ had everyone there, but DeShawn’s eyes were on Talesha. She stood there in her fresh tall tee and j’s looking good as ever. Not wanting to seem too eager DeShawn kept his distance and played it cool even though he panicking inside. Don’t freak out, stay calm, be yourself. DeShawn thought over in over to himself when all of a sudden Talesha walked over. Seamlessly places her hand on the small in Deshawn’s back she pulled him in and whispered, “You look good tonight.” Deshawn was flustered a bit embarrassed he averted his eyes. “What you acting all shy for baby boy?” Talesha teased, “let’s go to my car so we can talk a little more.”
Before DeShawn could even process what was going on hands, all across his body. Talesha’s underneath his shirt, tugging at his boxers as her lips caressed his neck. He felt himself getting excited. He knew Talesha was about to pounce. “Wait! I don’t think this is right, I don’t have any protection!” Deshawn pleaded.
“Come on, stop being a baby plus it feel better without it. I wouldn’t hurt you baby boy don’t you trust me?” Talesha asked. Deshawn looked out the window he knew that Talesha could have any guy she wanted. He took a deep breath in and complied with Talesha’s demands. In. Out. In. Out. In. Out. He sat there as she went to work, using his body for pleasure. He could no longer contain it. He grabbed his clothes and scurried to return, feeling different, as if he lost a piece of him.
DeShawn waited for Talesha to text, she never did. It hurt him, Deshawn laid in bed for weeks, but something felt wrong. He could feel a change in his body. Just before the end of the summer Deshawn ran into Talesha at a trunk party. Her features softer her bosom increased, Deshawn realized he had gotten her pregnant! DeShawn broke into tears I can’t believe we’re pregnant he thought, how am I going to tell my parents! He calmed himself and approached Talesha, “are you pregnant?” Talesha, laughed, “nigga bye!”
“No Talesha, I know my body and I know how it feels! I think you may be pregnant with my child!” Deshawn sobbed. Talesha rolled her eyes and reluctantly purchased an at home pregnancy test. Positive.
“Nigga fuck you mean I’m pregnant. Ugh you just trying to ruin my life. All cuz you trying to stay together with a boss bitch like me. Pathetic, all because you know I’m going to the league. Don’t fucking talk to me, unless you writing a check for an abortion!” Talesha yelled at DeShawn as he sobbed uncontrollably.
“It’s too late for an abortion,” Deshawn wept, “we had sex 4 months ago.”
Deshawn did have feelings for Talesha but now he had feelings for his unborn child that Talesha was caring. All his life he dreamt of being a daddy but not this soon. He wanted to finish high school go to prom, go to college, and become a veterinarian. He saw his dreams slipping from his fingers. He came to grasps with the reality of the situation, telling his parents, looking for jobs, taking responsibility. Talesha on the other hand was still messing around with her friends, going out, and missing doctors appointments Deshawn set up. But before DeShawn could blink Talesha was having the baby.
Deja, was born on a winter day. A proud papa, Deshawn held his baby girl in his arms. He knew it was an uphill battle but he was ready for the fight. Even Talesha seemed to have come around after seeing and holding the baby. After three days it was time to take Deja home, Talesha didn’t have an extra room so she agreed to let DeShawn take her home from the hospital. That was the last time Talesha would see baby DeJa. DeShawn texted insestnly
“Don’t you care about our daughter? What about feeding the baby?” DeShawn asked
“Similac NIGGGGGGUHHHH” Talesha responded.
Deshawn wept but had no time for pity. As he vowed he would be both the father and mother to baby Deja. And he did, he worked 3 jobs just to keep the lights on and put some Roc-A-Wear on his baby girls feet. With three jobs though, he could never, be around though. Without a proper female role model, Deja preyed upon the boys in the neighborhood with the same prowess her mother once had. And no sooner than she turned 16 DeShawn saw the similar softness in her face and fullness in bosom.
